Wichita Collegiate Middle School Community Service

Dear Parents,
We are continuing our initiative in the Middle School, asking each student to do five hours of community service during the school year.  We know this will aid their character development and fits the Collegiate mindset of selflessness, humility, and giving back.  We hope to make this easy for students AND you!  Above all, we hope the students develop a long-term desire to serve our community and others.  You can help this by steering them towards volunteer efforts that suit their interests.  And, you could join them in their efforts!

What should students do?
· Students are free to create their own volunteer projects.  They can help a neighbor , friend, teacher, etc...
· It must be unpaid work
· Students can volunteer anywhere in the community
· Students can also join school-wide efforts
· Fill out volunteer form (once work is completed) found in MS office and turn in to advisors

Where should you start?
· Talk with your child about what things they really care about and want to make a difference with.  Is it animals?  Find out about Humane Society volunteering.  Do they have a heart for special needs?  Sign them up for our Special Olympics!
· For opportunities in the community, check out these two websites or call to find out details :
        Volunteermatch.org
Volunteerkansas.org (enter “Wichita” as the key word instead of your zip code)

*Check our calendar for school group efforts!
